Timura | Südharz
LUSH SÜDHARZ – DISCOVER OUR HOME.
EXPERIENCE THE NATURAL SIDE OF HARZ’S EVER-CHANGING FORESTS, CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL MATTERS AND TIMURA.
There are many reasons for visiting Südharz: it may be to experience the innovative thermo wood production first-hand during a tour of the wood manufacturer timura, to see the impressive countryside and discover new places, to enjoy a break with the family, or simply to enjoy the peace and quiet. Simply escape the daily routine – or combine business with pleasure.
Südharz has something for everyone. Discover 500 year-old half-timbered houses in Stolberg. Browse through the history of this half-timbered town and discover Juliana von Stolberg-Wernigerode, the Primordial Mother of the House of Orange-Nassau, or Thomas Müntzer – a contemporary and adversary of Martin Luther. Or maybe pay a visit to the statue of Roland in Questenberg and find out more about the secret of the quest.
Watch the Master of the Mint at work and experience the magic of the centuries-old traditions of craftsmanship in Südharz. Admire the magnificent halls of Stolberg Castle, which has only recently thrown open its doors to the public again after a very extended period of hibernation. Stroll around the "Staudengarten" (perennial garden) and enjoy the view over the forest landscape.
Discover the flora and fauna during guided hikes along the edge of the Südharz area. Orchids, heathlands, the Adonis rose, bats and fire salamanders are just some of nature's marvels that give shape to the variety that is the Südharz karst landscape. Walk to The Joseph Cross or discover the cool peace of the Heimkehle show cave, which was turned into an armaments factory during the era of national socialism. Today, an underground memorial marks this dark period in our history. The show cave extends over an area of 2 km into the ridges of the "Old Stolberg" on the edge of the Thyra valley and the public is given access to around 600 m of the cave during a one-hour guided tour. The Heimkehle is a key winter refuge for bats, and the greater mouse-eared bat is right at home in the cave and can be observed during winter tours.
If you like small and special churches, then maybe you should pay a visit to the smallest replica of the Dresden Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) in Schwenda and listen to the history of its creation.
You are always welcome in Südharz and at timura and we would be delighted to show you our innovative thermo wood production and wood structuring process during a guided tour of the wood manufacturer timura.
